Preliminary events

Several local housing forums have been organized in the lead up to the regional Asia-Pacific Housing Forum. Here is a brief roundup.

Samoa

Prime Minister Fiamē Naomi Mataʻafa — the country’s first female leader — gave the keynote address at the December 2 forum. Habitat New Zealand and nongovernmental organization ADRA Samoa also launched the Negotiated Partnership Programme in the country.

Fiji

At the hybrid event on November 29, participants discussed difficulties in using local materials, techniques and designs, financing affordable housing and advancing sustainability in the housing sector.

Cambodia

About 220 participants including informal settlement residents took part in a fully virtual event on November 26. They focused on the role of communities as well as citywide mapping in building resilience in cities and communities.

India

More than 700 people registered for the India Housing Forum from November 23 to 24. The conference aimed to build collaboration to create impact in affordable housing and to contribute to the Government of India’s vision of "Housing for All."

The Andhra Pradesh Chapter of the India Housing Forum was held from March 25-26. 

Philippines

Presidential candidates joined experts and leaders at a virtual conference from November 10 to 11 and shared how they would make housing a priority in their campaigns. The Philippine Youth Congress that was also held attracted over 200 young leaders.

Indonesia

At the Indonesia Housing Forum on October 14, representatives from the government, the private sector and academia opened the virtual event. One of the sessions for the Indonesia Housing Forum focused on the property industry as one of the drivers of Indonesia's economic growth.

Hong Kong

On October 4, World Habitat Day was also marked by the Hong Kong Housing Forum that saw 60 guests virtually joining a panel discussion. Another 20 students from three schools took part in the Youth SDG Workshop.
